Humour, cynicism and ridicule!

I am reading a delightful autobiography - Roger Lewis' "What Am I Still Doing Here!". Wonderful cynicism with humour. The kind of book Victor Meldrew might write, if he moved in literary and theatrical circles. It may colour my responses to a number of issues! Recommended!

I note now it is on Kindle.I picked it up in the Auckland libarary (St Heliers) on an impulse.
Wiki doesn't have much to say about Lewis and I had not previously heard of him.
As per my Facebook ID, I am a member of the Victor Meldrew Party (possibly the only one!)."I don't believe it!"

Yes, I found it on Amazon's Kindle store so have it saved to my wishlist for a future purchase date :)

Try "Sherry Cracker gets normal" by D J Connell if you like dead pan humour and eccentrics. I adore Mr Chin, a delightful character in the book. Also Alan Bennett is always bang on target for intelligent, cynical wit. try "The History Boys" or "The Uncommon Reader" which is delightfully wicked. If your not easily offended, also try his "Smut" which I think is his latest release. It's a bit more difficult to find this genre which is a bit more unique than the mainstream Goth, American Detective, or historical damselle in distress tosh. Cheers

I love the wonderful Mr B and have a large collection of his works (especially plays and monologues) both in book form and on audio, I never get tired of listening to them.

Just downloaded the Roger Lewis book (forgive me: much prefer paper but I'm a child of the instant gratification era). If Stephen Fry states that this book is."Unremittingly glorious. I and the world demand more and we shall thump our tin mugs on the table demanding it until we are satisfied.' then I have to have it. Now. Thanks for the fantastic lead!

Please don't shoot the messenger! He might be an acquired taste.

I am halfway through his "Suicide notes." The same humorous and cynical comments.

He is possibly an acquired taste but he writes as I wish I could - mind you, I would lose all my friends, if they featured.:-)
